The Brain Unseen: Understanding Acquired Brain Injury

Join us in welcoming Alum Stephanie Huhn, MA (’09), LLP for this seminar on Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).

Injuries to the brain are prevalent, yet often unseen, unrecognized, misunderstood or misdiagnosed. In this presentation attendees will gain an understanding of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) as well as the signs, symptoms and effects it has on the individual and beyond. Attendees will also learn about common co-occurring disorders, types of ABI, common causes and prevalence amongst varying populations, as well as assessment and screening options for therapists. The unique treatment-challenges faced by this population will be discussed as well as treatment methods, approaches, and tools.

Stephanie is a Limited Licensed Psychologist and 2009 MSP Alum who has been in practice for over 10 years. She has worked in residential and outpatient settings, in private practice, in Community Mental Health, in Addiction Recovery and has been working in the field of brain injury for the last 6 years. She is passionate about speaking, educating and advocating for mental health issues and has been interviewed on Fox 2 Detroit and various Podcast shows. She also speaks frequently at local and national conferences. Stephanie holds special interests in complex trauma, addiction and the brain. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a Certified Case Manager and an Advanced Certified Complex Trauma Specialist.
